Artist Bio

Katherine Paine is a Montana-based artist and wilderness canoe guide whose work is deeply inspired by the landscapes, wildlife, and outdoor experiences of the American West. Drawing from years spent guiding backcountry canoe expeditions and living in remote environments, her art reflects an intimate connection to nature and the people who recreate within it.

Working across watercolor, watercolor and ink, acrylic on canvas, wood burning, and illustration, Katherine creates original nature inspired artwork rooted in real moments from the field. Using photographs captured during her expeditions and time in the Montana wilderness, her work blends observation and interpretation: capturing the atmosphere, texture, and emotional presence of a place rather than just its physical form.

Her artwork often features wilderness scenes, wildlife, and outdoor recreation themes such as canoeing, paddling, and life in remote landscapes. Each piece is designed to evoke a sense of peace, nostalgia, and curiosity, offering a way to bring the outdoors into everyday spaces.

Originally moving to Montana in 2010, Katherine has spent over a decade building both her guiding career and artistic practice. Coming from a family of artists and drawing since childhood, she began painting more intentionally in high school and has continued to refine her work through years of hands-on exploration.

Through her original paintings, prints, and nature-inspired stickers, Katherine’s work aims to connect people back to the natural world; bringing small pieces of wilderness, wildlife, and outdoor life into homes, gear, and daily routines.
